The Boston Globe reported last week that one of the SwiftVets had recanted his position. That turned out to be a misquote. Elliot filed a new affidavit where he maintains that "John Kerry has not been honest about what has happened in Vietnam."

Posted by: dick at August 28, 2004 12:19 AMthe swift boat vets are a republican funded front. some of them date back to nixon's anti vietnam protest efforts. their allegations are ridiculous and the main stream press has discredited these as "lies". but you seem like a reasonable person, why believe an investigative press when the swift boat veterans tell you their slanted version.
Posted by: dick2 at August 28, 2004 12:27 AMoh so now I see what you're talking about. Elliot signed an affadavit then said "he had made a "terrible mistake" in signing it. Then he signed a SECOND affadavit stating that he still stands by his first affadavit.
But Elliott also made what he called an "immaterial clarification" - saying he has no first-hand information that Kerry was less than forthright about what he did to win the Silver Star.
so let's see now hmmm. He changed his position after the first affadavit signs a second affadavit with a qualifier that basically admits he has no first knowledge of the incident.
I think we can safely commit to the record that elliot has intentionally dicredited himself.
